Getting up really early to experience the most romantic city in the world was so worth it!

Not only can you have the usually crowded central Paris to yourself, but also bathe in the most beautiful morning sunlight.

Having your editorial portrait photography done at the crack of dawn has many more advantages. Every minute the light changes, which provides excellent opportunities for versatile images.

Planning your shoot

At the end of June the perfect time for the portrait photographer to meet the model was 6 am, before the sun spilled over the Pyramids of the Louvre Museum. Although the barriers around it are not lifted until 7am, the surrounding majestic architecture provides a stunning backdrop for portraits. There are multiple arches, alleys with rows of lamp posts, galleries and staircases. So, wherever your eye falls is a perfect spot for photography!

Just across from the Louvre lays the Tuileries Garden with its green lawns and hedges and, of course, the magnificent Triumphal Arch of the Carousel, which looks breathtakingly beautiful in the morning light.

Improvise!

As a photographer I was blessed with such a fun and adventurous model! And you will soon see why..

It wasn’t planned, but as soon as we saw the sprinklers on the immaculate lawns, we thought the same thing: Let’s go for it! What laughs we had, and the result pleased us both. The whole session took us slightly more than two hours with three changes of clothes. (The changing part was the funniest and of course it hadn’t crossed our minds to bring a towel)
